This Wednesday (May 7th) is Fill the Racks! in Moscow, ID.
K-8th grade students from 8 Moscow Schools are looking forward to participating with the rest of the Nation as it’s also National Bike to School day.
Participating schools include:
- Lena Whitmore Elementary
- McDonald Elementary
- Russell Elementary
- West Park Elementary
- St. Mary’s Catholic School
- Palouse Prarie Chater School
- Moscow Charter School
- Moscow Middle School
We are expecting close to 1,500 students and parents to be out on their bikes or walking or rolling to school for this community event.
Participating students who walk, bike or ride the bus to school will receive reflective stickers that they can put on their bikes and helmets so cars can see more easily from afar.
Community volunteers from the Rotary Club and the U of I Cycling Club will be volunteering, as well as parent volunteers from each school. Thank you to all who are helping make this event happen city-wide!
We are still looking for extra volunteers to help be extra eyes at major intersections to make sure children cross safely. Volunteers cannot technically stop traffic but their presence can make a difference when kids are trying to cross!
Children are encouraged to get off their bikes and walk across intersections, watch for white reverse lights in drive-ways when they are biking on the sidewalk and wear their helmets. Safe Routes can provide helmets to students in need.
Now let’s go Fill the Racks!
